Using this color
#80837E (#80837e) sits in the grey family at about 96° hue, 2% saturation, and 50% lightness. Contrast is 3.84:1 on white and 5.47:1 on black, so near-black labels read more clearly on the swatch itself. Closest Tailwind token in our matcher: slate-500.
Sensible jobs for this swatch
Do not use #80837e as small body text on white — 3.84:1 misses WCAG AA (4.5:1). Pair it with a darker shade from the scale below, or check pairs in the contrast checker.
Low saturation makes this easy to overuse as a neutral. Keep one chromatic accent elsewhere so the interface does not go muddy.
Family context: Neutrality, balance, and modernity. Essential for UI chrome, typography, and systems. Common uses still include buttons, charts, and accents in the Grey range — always verify the pair for this exact hex in the contrast checker.
